Professor of Practice
Applications are invited for appointment as Professor of Practice in the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 527027), to commence on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a five-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding availability.
Requirements
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Sociology, Demography, Statistics, or related areas. They should have a minimum of 15 years of professional full-time experience, including at least 5 years in senior management positions, in designing and managing large-scale surveys and research projects. Demonstrated interdisciplinary expertise in developing infrastructure for quantitative research methodologies and statistical analysis in social science fields and proven track record of successful grant applications are essential. Direct communication in English and Putonghua with collaborators and research subjects are required. They should be organised, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team of disciplines of social sciences. Excellent leadership on mega general social survey projects would be an advantage.
Appointees will play a vital role in leading the development and execution of the Faculty’s flagship general social survey initiatives in Hong Kong and GBA, ensuring the Faculty remains at the forefront of social research and survey development. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of academic rigor and practical experience in survey methodology, promoting academic collaboration with faculty members both inside and outside the Faculty/University and external stakeholders to enhance the survey's impact and relevance. They should build and maintain a robust survey infrastructure to support large-scale data collection and analysis, as well as secure funding and manage resources efficiently to support the survey projects, related research initiatives and infrastructure needs.
What We Offer
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
