- Be part of the Technical Services leadership team manage STEM College's Bioresources platform and research related biological laboratories
- Based at the Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University.
About the Role
As the Senior Manager Bioresources and Biosafety, you will be responsible for the effective, safe, and compliant management of the College's Bioresources platform and research related biological laboratories. You will provide guidance and advice to technical and research staff using the Bioresources platform, including University and College staff, students, and external users.
This is a significant supervisory and administrative role involving physical containment, animal welfare, management of staff, adherence to a strict laboratory protocol, record-keeping, and budgetary responsibility.
You will be a key member of the Technical Services Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of effective work plans, business processes and excellent health and safety practices across the Technical Services function to deliver on the College teaching and research goals and objectives.
About You
To be successful for this position, you will have:
- A degree in in a relevant field such as Science, Biomedicine or Veterinary Sciences, with demonstrated experience in laboratory animal science, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
- Experience in resource management in a university context or equivalent complex organisation
- Proven leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to successfully coach, lead and motivate staff, including the development of cohesive team culture across multiple sites
- High level written and verbal communication, negotiation and change management skills
- Demonstrated experience in the application of legislative and regulatory requirements as they relate to animal experimentation, production, importation, Physical Containment (PC), Good Laboratory Practise (GLP), and animal welfare
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing policies and procedures to support ongoing operations of a Bioresources platform in compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
- Experience working in a tertiary education environment or an equivalent, large, complex organization
Qualifications
A minimum of Bachelor's degree in a science/engineering related discipline with extensive relevant experience or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training in both the management and use of a diverse portfolio of laboratory environments.
