About the opportunity

This position is within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney as part of the MRFF Genomics Health Futures Mission funded 'PRECISE' (Practitioner Readiness, Education and Capabilities, with Implementation Science Evaluation) Genomics Research Project, led by Dr Alan Ma.

This project aims to co-design genomics resources to support primary care, with an implementation science approach to improve capacity for genomics in the primary healthcare sector. PRECISE has a strong team of researchers based at the University of Sydney (Daffodil Centre, Primary Care network and Postgraduate and professionals' education research, Children's Hospital Westmead clinical school and Specialty of Genomic Medicine), industry, health policy, and the primary care sector and is an innovative approach to capacity building and research in this sector.

We are seeking to recruit for a Research Fellow Level B / Research Associate Level A /Postdoc Research Associate Level A, with experience in qualitative research methods in clinical settings, such as health services, co-design, and education research. It would suit a postdoctoral researcher from a health services, medical, public health, or genetics background, who is excited and interested about developing expertise in coordinating a multidisciplinary research program. This will involve collaboration with partners in primary care, genomics, education, and implementation science.

This position will be actively contributing to the PRECISE research activities with particular focus on genetic education co-design and evaluation, primary care stakeholder engagement, and implementation science research. The candidate will be involved in designing research protocols, drafting and submitting ethics applications, undertaking core aspects of qualitative research work, and contributing to analysis and presentation of findings. They will collate and record research data from qualitative interviews, draw insights and analyses with an implementation science focus, and report information from the research undertaken. They will help drive the development of our genomic education and evaluation program, providing support to junior members of the team, striving for success in further competitive funding and publications.

Your key responsibilities will be to: Level B

• conduct original research independently and as part of a team, to fulfil the aims of the PRECISE project
• engaging with consumer and primary care stakeholders with interviews, focus groups and surveys to evaluate their genomic education needs, and implementation barriers and needs
• assisting in co-design of genomic education resources, and evaluation of these with consumers and primary care stakeholders
• engaging in implementation science research to evaluate the practitioner, health system, and patient level needs, gaps, and enablers for building genomic capabilities in the primary care sector
• publish research papers and other research outputs such as conference and research event presentations
• organize and contribute to PRECISE project-related team meetings, workshops, public events, and training sessions
• write and submit ethics applications and research grant proposals

Your key responsibilities will be to: Level A

• conduct research and/or scholarly activities under the limited supervision of senior academic staff, either independently or as part of the PRECISE team
• assist with engagement with consumer and primary care stakeholders with interviews, focus groups and surveys to evaluate their genomic education needs, and implementation barriers and needs
• assist in co-design of genomic education resources, and evaluation of these with consumers and primary care stakeholders
• contribute to implementation science research to evaluate the practitioner, health system, and patient level needs, gaps, and enablers for building genomic capabilities in the primary care sector
• coordinate activities with other academic and clinical staff within the team
• assist in preparation of research publications, talks and presentations, grant proposals and ethics applications

About you

• PHD in a relevant health related discipline (such as qualitative health research, implementation science, health services research, genetics, genetic counselling, public health or primary care)
• Masters in research, public health, implementation science, medical education and genetics, will be considered too.
• background in genetics, genomics, implementation science, and/or education evaluation will be considered favourably
• proven experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity.
• demonstrated skills in management and analysis of qualitative data from stakeholder engagement, interviews, focus groups, and surveys of patients and clinicians
• experience in academic publications
• demonstrated experience writing and submitting ethics applications

Note: The successful appointment on the Level of the role A OR B will be dependent on the decision of the hiring area based on skills assessment and experience criteria.
