The Position

This role is central to an ambitious team focused on innovative research in the utilization of Germanium (Ge) and Ge alloys for mid-infrared photodetectors, and the creation of novel carbon structures under high pressure. It’s a multifaceted position that combines experimental oversight with analytical strength and strong communication skills.

The selected candidate will spearhead a range of experiments, from ion-implantation to electron microscopy, Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy, and diamond anvil cell synthesis. This role demands technical expertise, the ability to analyse complex data, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with team members in designing and executing experiments. A key aspect of this role involves collaborating with staff and students to design experiments and mentor students through their research projects. The researcher will play a pivotal role in coordinating experiment allocation across different teams to ensure efficient progress.

The Person

We are looking for a qualified physicist with experience in Group 14 materials synthesis and complex characterisation using spectroscopy and electron microscopy techniques. We are looking for a strong team member with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with colleagues and clients. Highly developed organisational skills and effective self-management are key.
