Together we can deliver a transformative student experience.
The University of Southampton is a global top 100 university, offering well-established Pre-sessional programmes for international students to develop their English for Academic Purposes before starting their degree programme.
We are looking for suitably skilled and experienced Pre-sessional EAP Tutors to join our diverse team in Summer 2024. Tutors are responsible for delivering an English for Academic Purposes curriculum with up to twenty contact hours per week, setting and marking assessments within set timescales, completing teaching-related administration, and participating in weekly team meetings. Staff attend a five-day induction, receive professional guidance throughout, and have the option of subsidised Halls of Residence accommodation and bus pass (costing approximately £100pw).
We currently have positions available on our 6 week programme only for 2024. Dates of work including induction are: 8 July – 22 August (teaching commences on 15 July)
Pre-sessional EAP Tutors are assigned roles delivering Reading and Writing or Listening and Speaking modules, according to individual preference and the needs of the programmes.
- Pre-sessional EAP Tutor - Reading and Writing salary: £39,347 pro rata per annum
- Pre-sessional EAP Tutor - Listening and Speaking salary: £37,099 pro rata per annum
Roles delivering Reading and Writing modules are available on a full-time basis Monday-Friday. Roles delivering Listening and Speaking modules are available on a full-time basis Monday-Friday or on a part-time basis at 0.5 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) over a maximum of four days Monday-Friday. Working hours are flexible outside of timetabled teaching and scheduled meetings, and we endeavour to publish timetables in advance to enable colleagues to plan their time and accommodate caring commitments where applicable.
Positions are available across both roles teaching either on campuses in Southampton or online remotely from within the UK, subject to student demand. Planned working locations will be stated in conditional offers of employment based on personal preference and the needs of the programme. In order to teach online you will need excellent IT skills, a reliable internet connection, personal computer, camera, speakers, and headset. Regardless of teaching on campus or online, you will need to be based in the UK for this role.
You must be available to work for the full period of the programme; annual leave is not permitted to be taken during the programmes, save for exceptional circumstances that must be approved in advance, and will be added to the end of contracts.
We believe equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a welcoming, vibrant and successful organisation. Having a diverse workforce, inclusive of people of all ages and beliefs, from different racial, educational and social backgrounds opens up a wealth of possibilities, makes us more creative and accelerates our impact on society. We welcome applicants that value the diversity of our community and are willing to play their part in supporting the mission of inclusivity.
