About Jaume I University
Jaume I University, or Universitat Jaume I (UJI) in Spanish, is a public university situated in Castello de la Plana, the capital city of the province of Castellón in the Valencian Community of Spain. It was founded in 1991 after law approval from the Valencian Parliament, and takes its name from the king who established the Kingdom of Valencia.
UJI is served by one single central campus which covers 176,000 square metres. A range of management and research buildings surround the Jardi dels Sentits. This is a sizeable garden measuring 13,000 square metres, with a name that translates as "garden of the senses". This combination of scenic setting with what is a modern, integrated, and functional campus demonstrates the university's educational model which has its roots in "lifelong learning, integral education and active participation in social progress... and respect for the environment".
UJI takes great pride in its international relations, and participates in all European Union international programmes. It is also part of the Spanish government's Interuniversity Cooperation Programme. The university sees itself as "an educational community that is open to the world" and has a "firm focus on innovation in the international sphere". It has links with over 300 other universities around the world, and more than 600 students have been welcomed on foreign exchange initiatives.
The university offers five faculties/research institutes: faculty of humanities and social sciences (FCHS), faculty of law and economic sciences (FCJE), faculty of health sciences (FCS), school of technology and experimental sciences (ESTCE) and the doctoral school.
