As one of the leading universities in Finland, the University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties. We educate creative and independent problem solvers who are ready to solve complex scientific questions and social issues and build a sustainable world. In addition to our Finnish degree programmes, we also offer a wide array of degree programmes in English. Annually, nearly 2,500 international students study at the University of Turku. English is widely spoken and we cooperate with international partners in numerous global academic networks, programmes and projects. Turku in general is a very popular and international student city, approximately 20 % of the residents study at one of the city’s higher education institutions.
The intake for our international Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes takes place once a year. Currently, we offer Master’s degree programmes in English in economics and business administration, education, health and biomedical sciences, technology and engineering, natural sciences, and social sciences and humanities.

The research conducted at the University of Turku is ethical and scientifically excellent. We are pioneers in open science and promote citizen science. Our research is visible in the public debate and employed in decision-making, problem solving and development in different fields. We are a home for The University of Turku Graduate School (UTUGS) which consists of 16 Doctoral Programmes covering all the disciplines at the University of Turku. The application period for a right to study a doctoral degree occurs twice a year. With approximately 2,000 doctoral researchers from over 70 countries, UTUGS provides an international research community with systematic, supportive and high-quality training for doctoral researchers.
A proactive and dynamic partner
Close collaboration in regional, national and international networks and projects is important for the University of Turku. We are involved in long-term partnerships with both public and private organisations, and several of our research projects are done in collaboration with international partners.
As well as being part of some of the oldest and best-known university networks, such as International Association of Universities and the Coimbra Group, we actively create new connections, such as The European Campus of City-Universities, EC2U Alliance and Nature Positive Universities Alliance of which University of Turku is a member.
In addition to academic networks, we collaborate with business life to create opportunities for new innovations and their commercialisation as well as business development. The University of Turku also has an excellent international reputation and standing as a global education provider. We offer global educational services to various organisations and export Finnish expertise to the world.
